This week, we’re sharing a phrase you can use when you want to help someone believe in themselves. It’s something we said to each other when we started, and it still gives us strength today.
いける ikeru
いける comes from the verb 行く (iku) meaning “to go,” but it’s often used when cheering someone on or boosting confidence.
①I can do it/I got this
To motivate yourself or someone else to keep going and believe in your ability to do something.
Example Sentence
めちゃくちゃ疲れたしあと3キロも歩かないと山頂につけないのか…でもここまで来たしいける!
Ugh, I’m exhausted, and we still have 3 km to the summit… but I’ve made it this far. I got this!
②You got this/ You’ll be fine
to help them believe in themselves
Example Sentence
A: 明日は10年ぶりのデートで緊張するな…
I’m nervous about my first date in 10 years.B: 大丈夫!いけるって!自信持って! You’ll be fine.
You got this. Just be confident!
③We got this/ We’ll be fine / It’ll work out
To encourage a group or show confidence that things will go well together
Example Sentence
A: 今日みんなであの有名な焼き鳥屋行きたいんだけど混んでるかな?
I want to go to that famous yakitori place with everyone today, but do you think it’ll be crowded?B: 平日だし雨も降ってるから、多分そんなに混んでないよ!いけるいける!
It’s a weekday and it’s raining, so it probably won’t be too crowded. It’ll work out! Let’s go for it!
