交通手段 Transportation
こんにちは!I (Momo) recently moved to Berlin from Tokyo to start a new chapter in my life. It’s the holiday season, so there were many tourists on the planes and trains during my journey to the city. This time, let’s explore some transportation(交通手段 koutsushudan) -related words that I hope will be helpful when you visit Japan! ✈️
到着 (Tōchaku) /出発 (Shuppatsu)
Arrival / Departure
You’ll often see and hear these words at stations and airports.
経由地 (Keiyuchi)
a transit point or stopover during a journey.
乗り継ぎ(nori-tsugi)
layover
乗り継ぎ is used for connecting a flight
乗り換え(nori-kae)
transfer
乗り換え is used when transferring from one line to another of trains, buses, and subways Some big stations are so complicated and easily get lost😵💫
切符(kippu)
ticket
You can still buy the old style tickets too in a station
There are also enthusiasts who enjoy collecting commemorative tickets and old tickets, they’re the one of the type of 鉄道オタク(Train otaku).
Suica, Pasmo
IC card/mobile app for the transportation (train and bus)
Those can be used as a prepaid method for electronic payments.
Go
Taxi app
Due to regulations in Japan, ride-sharing has not become widespread. Instead, services that allow you to hail a taxi are more common.
Most used taxi app in Japan │ Taxi App GO │ GO Inc.
XXまでお願いします。(XX made onegai shimasu.)
you can use this phrase to ask taxi drivers to take you to your desired destination.
