I started going to the gym last week.✌️
体育(tai-iku)
physical education, PE
体 means body, 育 means growth.
Example Sentence
A: 明日(あした)の国語(こくご)の授業(じゅぎょう)は、体育(たいいく)に変更(へんこう)になります。
Tomorrow’s Japanese class is changed to the PE class.B: あ、体育着(たいいくぎ)忘(わす)れないようにしなきゃ✍️
Oh need to make sure I don’t forget my gym clothes✍️
体育館(tai-iku-kan)
gym (in school)
We usually use the word “ジム(jimu / gym)” for the fitness club/gym. And 体育館 is used to refer the school gym.
Example Sentence
A: 田中先輩(たなかせんぱい)が体育館(たいいくかん)であんたのこと待(ま)ってるって言(い)ってたよ〜。これはまさか告白(こくはく)…?
Tanaka-senpai said he’s waiting for you in the gym... Could this be a love confession...?!
B: いやー私あの人(ひと)と一回(いっかい)も喋(しゃべ)ったことないよ?
No way, I’ve never even talked to that person.
準備体操(junbi-tai-sou)
warm-up exercises, stretches
Example Sentence
A: この間(あいだ)体操(たいそう)しないで走(はし)ったら足(あし)捻(ひね)りそうになったわ
I ran without warming up, and I almost twisted my ankle!
B: いやー準備(じゅんび)体操(たいそう)は大事(だいじ)だよ
Oh no, warm-up exercises are important.
If it’s only says 体操(tai-sou) that usually means gymnastics in sports.
