友達の表現 Expressions of Friendship Levels
こんにちは！
Ever notice how Japanese have different words for different levels of friendship? Especially there are slight difference between acquaintances and person who is familiar to you.
Let's find out!
顔見知り（かおみしり）
acquaintance, knowing the person by sight
Example Sentence
A: ゆき知（し）ってる？ Do you know Yuki?
B: 知（し）ってるけど、顔見知（かおみし）り程度（ていど）！高校（こうこう）のとき同（おな）じクラスだったよ
I know her but but just as an acquaintance! We were in the same class in high school.
知り合い（しりあい）
familiar person, casual acquaintance
Example Sentence
A: あの会社（かいしゃ）で働（はたら）いている知（し）り合（あ）いとかいない？ Do you know anyone who works at that company?
B: いる！今度（こんど）紹介（しょうかい）するね
Yes! I'll introduce you next time.
